Pastor Sehrlamin is passionate to reach his people in Sierra Leone!
As we visited, he talked about his calling to plant new churches and make disciples in Sierra Leone. After years of civil war and the devastating Ebola outbreaks, “Sierra Leone is ready to receive Jesus,” Sehrlamin said. “But we need all our pastors to get training that equips them to preach, plant churches and lead their congregations.”
He looked down at the Discovery Series book in his hands, “This is what we need!”
Africa’s Hope is producing Discovery Series courses in the major languages of Africa. This 38-course curriculum is equivalent to an associate degree and provides the training most African pastors need to plant and lead churches. The courses are highly contextualized for students living in Africa, providing sound, biblically accurate training through culturally appropriate methods.
To reach the greatest potential for training, the Discovery Series must be made available in the 15 major languages of the African continent. Many Bible school students can understand more than one language, but the most effective training occurs in their own mother tongue, the heart language they learned from birth at home. This language is, as some will tell you, what they pray in and how they hear from God. This is where their hearts are touched by the Word of God, so it’s important that we reach them in their own language with this essential training.
It’s a challenge to translate a complete curriculum of at least 38 titles into 15 languages, some of which do not use the alphabet we are familiar with. We need your help to meet this challenge!
Will you send a gift today? Every $5 you give helps to make one Discovery Series textbook available for an African pastor like Sehrlamin—in his own heart language.
If you are able to give this month, please send an offering to Africa’s Hope in the enclosed envelope, and we will use it to advance ongoing Discovery Series language translation projects.
Thank you for making it possible for Africa’s Hope to train African pastors to meet the challenges they face. With the support of friends like you, we are able to resource and strengthen the church in Africa.
