This is an incredible testimony to God’s redemptive work in Africa as well as an urgent cry for us to continue developing the Discovery Series.
A few years ago, Gaston was a homeless thief on the streets in Cameroon. He was also addicted to alcohol and drugs. Gaston survived by thievery. What he ate, what he wore, what he carried with him was stolen from others. He slept under tables and in alleyways near the open-air markets. He had no religion and worshipped no god. He was hated, despised, and abused by others.
But one night Gaston heard the audible voice of God in his ear. On that night he began a journey with Jesus, and now he is one of thousands on a journey to become a Pentecostal soul winner.
Today, we need your help to produce the 38-text Discovery Series for African ministers-in-training like Gaston. I urge you to respond to this need in Africa today. First, however, let me share the rest of Gaston’s amazing story.
Gaston was asleep under a table in the marketplace. He was drunk and high on drugs. But even then, he knew the voice he heard;
“Leave this life behind. Change. Become a new man, and be My servant.”
Gaston woke up terrified. He wandered the streets until he came across an Assemblies of God church. When the pastor arrived, Gaston told him what had happened the night before. The pastor led Gaston down the “Romans Road” plan of salvation and then led him to a decision to follow Christ.
Immediately following, Gaston was completely delivered from addiction; he later married and began a family. Then he entered a rural church planting school in northern Cameroon, and he is there today. This school is incredible! Forty students study together for a couple of weeks at a time, and then spread out into the bush country to find and preach in villages that have no churches.
Gaston is currently planting a church among his own people, the unreached Lami tribe.
“There is so much witchcraft in my home village,” Gaston says. “Most of the people worship idols . . . there is an urgency for the gospel to reach them.”
Gaston boldly shares how Jesus radically changed him, and how He can take even a homeless, drug-addicted thief and help him be born again.
Where does the Discovery Series come into the picture? The answer is—everywhere!
We are developing the Discovery Series to be a diploma-level training program for Pentecostal pastors, church planters, and evangelists in Africa. There are 38 texts in production in English, and we are working to make them available in 11 more major languages used throughout Africa.
We use the Discovery Series heavily in Cameroon. Gaston is benefitting from these texts as they become available in his mother tongue of French.
Thus far, friends like you have generously supported the work we’re doing on the Discovery Series. Through you, we are helping equip thousands of soul winners to reach 867 unreached people groups in sub-Saharan Africa.
This is probably the most important project Africa’s Hope has ever launched. We call it the Journey of Discovery. Every pastor or lay worker (like Gaston) who studies these texts goes on a marvelous journey with God. Their potential as pastors and soul winners is unlocked through what they learn.
I am asking you today to go on the Journey of Discovery with us. At the end of the Journey of Discovery (when we’ve finished producing the texts in 12 languages including English), we will have given Africa an incredible gift that has been sorely needed for decades!
Literally tens of thousands of Africa Assemblies of God pastors, lay workers, and even pastors from other denominations will use these texts. Your donation will help us produce more of these 38 texts in 12 major languages used in Africa.
So far we have made great progress in translating the 38 texts into five of the 11 non-English languages and typesetting the English textbooks. The 5 languages and the percentage of translation that has been completed are:
As you can see, we need help getting started on the others. Each individual text costs just $5. And for $190 you can provide the entire 38-text Discovery Series for a pastor.
Please pray about what you can do to help. The Discovery Series is very important to people like Gaston . . . and also to the 867 unreached tribes whom Gaston and many other African soul winners want to reach with the gospel!Give now
